The Statistical Bulletin on the General Information of the
Open Universities in China in 2008

In 2008, the open universities in China (the OUs) consisted of the Open University of China (the OUC); 44 provincial open universities (referring to the open universities established in provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government and cities with economic planning directly supervised by the State Council and other independently established open universities); 949 municipal open universities (referring to 779 branch schools and 170 open universities under the direct administration of the provincial open universities); and 1823 county-level open universities (referring to the open universities under the direct administration of the branch schools).
Ⅰ. The Degree/Diploma Education
1. Open Education
In 2008, 524,200 students graduated from the OUC with either bachelor's degree (after getting junior college diploma), junior college diploma or the certificates of graduation from the One-College-Student-for-One-Village programme, of which 195,900 were undergraduates, including 5,150 conferred with bachelor's degrees, 309,900 were junior college graduates and 18,400 graduates from the One-College-Student-for-One-Village programme.
In 2008, the enrollment of the OUC totaled 861,200, including 241,800 undergraduate students, 569,600 junior college students and 49,800 students in the One-College-Student-for-One-Village programme.
In 2008, there were 2.2497 million active students registered in the OUC open education programme, including 732,800 undergraduate students, 1.4183 junior college students and 98,600 students in the One-College-Student-for-One-Village programme.
