Open Universities in China in 2009

In 2009, the open universities in China consisted of the Open University of China (OUC); 44 provincial open universities (referring to the open universities established in provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government and cities with economic planning directly supervised by the State Council and other independently established open universities); 933 municipal open universities (referring to 774 branch schools and 159 open universities under the direct administration of the provincial open universities); and 1,829 county-level open universities (referring to the open universities under the direct administration of the branch schools).
Ⅰ. Degree/Diploma Education
1. Open Education
In 2009, 543,400 students graduated from the OUC with either bachelor degree (after getting an associate degree or junior college diploma), an associate degree (junior college diploma) or a certificate from the One-College-Student-for-One-Village programme. Among these, 186,200 were undergraduates. They included 5,731 conferred with a bachelor degree, 339,900 with an associate degree, and the other 17,300 with a certificate from the One-College-Student-for-One-Village programme.
In 2009, the enrollment of the OUC open education programme totaled 943,800. These included 244,000 undergraduate students, 628,200 junior college students and 71,600 students involved in the One-College-Student-for-One-Village programmes.
In 2009, there were 2.6635 million active students registered in the OUC open education programme, including 791,100 undergraduate students, 1.7105 million junior college students and 161,900 students in the One-College-Student-for-One-Village programme.
