During the 11th Five-Year Plan period, the CRTVUs turned out 3.41 million graduates in the higher degree education programmes, accounting for 30.1% of the total number of adult degree education programmes around the country (see figure 3); recruited 4,475,400 students. In 2010, the CRTVUs had 2,953,200 active students studying in the higher degree education programmes (see figure 4), increased by 712,100 students. The Open University of China (formerly the China Central Radio and TV University) graduated 2,863,600 students in open education programmes, accounting for 62.17% of the total number of graduates involved in online education degree programmes in China(see figure 5). The CRTVUs have cultivated a large number of graduates who are conscientious, practical, and capable for the grass-roots level of the country.
In 2010, the numbers of the staff, full-time teachers and part-time teachers in the CRTVUs were respectively 94,500, 57,100 and 37,000, increased by 13,200, 11,800 and 438 compared with the year 2005 (see figure 6). The teaching qualities of full-time teachers have been improved remarkably. There were 16,464 teachers with senior professional titles, 400 teachers with a doctorate and 6,196 with a master's degree, increased by 4,936, 267 and 2,933 compared with the year 2005 (see figure 7).
In 2010, the CRTVUs possessed fixed assets valued at 34.093 billion yuan, increased by 62.84% compared with 20.936 billion yuan at the end of 2005 (see figure 8). The fixed assets value of equipment for teaching and research was 8.31 billion yuan, increased by 56.11% compared with 5.323 billion yuan at the end of 2005.
To fulfill the requirement for building open universities raised by the National Outline for Medium and Long-term Education Reform and Development (2010-2020),the CRTVUs would unswervingly follow the guidance of Deng Xiaoping Theory and the thought of Three Represents, apply the Scientific Outlook on Development thoroughly, comprehensively implement the ideas made in the Fifth Plenary Session of the 17th Central Committee of the CPC and grasp opportunities to make progress, realizing a smooth transition from radio and TV universities to open universities. We would make reform and innovation our motives, give priority to the teaching quality, and emphasize on the building of an information network, the construction of learning resources and well qualified teaching staff. We would contribute more to the national economic development and the building of a lifelong learning society by relying on series of reforms on the internal management system and operational mechanism. Note: Adult degree education programmes around the country include the adult programmes offered by CRTVUs, conventional institutions of higher learning and other organizations.
