![]() China Liaoyuan Radio & TV School (CLRTVS) is an open school of non-degree distance education for rural areas set up in April of 1990 by the Open University of China (OUC) with approval from the Ministry of Education (the former State Education Commission) in supporting the Ministry's implementation of the "Liaoyuan Plan" by means of radio, TV, text, audio-visual teaching materials, and other multimedia methods. Its goal is to popularize agricultural science and farming technology in China's rural areas, to improve the economic status of farmers, to speed up coordinated development of urban and rural economies, to improve both the spiritual and material lives of those in rural areas, and to cultivate highly-qualified agricultural workers for building a well-off society generally. Meanwhile, the School participates in the buildup of teaching resources for modern distance education of the nation's rural administrative staff. Dean of China Liaoyuan Radio & TV School is Ruan Zhiyong, who is also Vice President of OUC. The School's Executive Vice Dean is Xu Dian and Vice Dean is Zhang Zhijun. Broadcasting Channels: Since July 1st, 1990, CLRTVS has broadcasted over 7,000 credit hours of educational programmes on TV. Programme Production: In making its TV programmes, the School seeks expertise and professional cooperation with various organisations and institutions, such as audio-visual centres in the national OU System, the regional centres under the National Centre for Educational Technology, agricultural universities and colleges, audio-visual production centres under the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Modes of Teaching: CLRTVS can provide learning resources of rich teaching contents in various media formats. There are more than 2,000 practical technique programmes of all kinds with an audience of hundreds of millions. In addition to the use of satellite television, IP datacast, computer network, video, VCD, CAI courseware, printed teaching materials and others are also used as teaching resources. These practical technology oriented resources are used in vocational and general education as well as by rural practitioners. Network Construction: Since the founding of CLRTVS, Liaoyuan Schools have been set up in over 20 provinces and cities. In some well-developed areas, Liaoyuan schools were established at the county and town levels. These Schools formed an initial Liaoyuan education network with TV teaching programmes as its main teaching media. Making use of the CLRTVS's TV programme resources, the local Liaoyuan Schools actively conduct Liaoyuan education and enable the programmes to reach thousands of households by means of organizing group reception of the TV programmes, delivering programmes to the rural areas, printing and distributing booklets on agriculture techniques, offering Liaoyuan teaching and training sessions, and establishing Liaoyuan demonstration sites. |
