The Open University of China (OUC) started offering diploma education in economics and management through distance education in 1983. At that time, the division in charge was the Teaching & Research Office of Economics & Management under the supervision of the Liberal Arts Department. In 1985, the Department of Economics & Management was established. It was renamed as the Department of Finance & Economics in 1994 and in 2007 as the Faculty of Economics & Management. |

In providing diploma and degree programmes, the Faculty has attached great importance to combining it with non-degree certificates and on-the-job training. For example, the course entitled "General Management Performance Certificate" has been introduced into the curriculum of Industry & Business Management, and the course entitled "Certificate of Statistics Professional" has been introduced into the curriculum of Accounting. In this way, students who take the relevant courses and pass the exams can obtain both corresponding credits for the degree and the accredited certificates. |
