In May 2010, the Open University of China (OUC) and China National Business English Certification Testing Center signed a cooperation agreement for the China National Business English Certificate Test, to be launched in the spring of 2011 across the nationwide radio and TV university system.
The China National Business English Certificate Test is a nationwide test for training and certification which has been administered by the Association of International Trade of the Ministry of Commerce since 2007. It is an industry certification test developed to meet popular demand following the launch of the tests for Foreign Trade Merchandiser Qualification Certificate (export sales), International Freight Forwarders Qualification Certificate, International Commercial Vouching Clerk Qualification Certificate, and Foreign Trade Salesman Qualification Certificate for national and international trade. The test measures English communication skills relating to international business; the results can serve as a reference for enterprise recruiters and as a basis for evaluating English proficiency for international business practitioners. It is equivalent to China's BEC (Business English Certificate) and is the only national business English certification test. The China National Business English Certificate Test is run by the Association of International Trade of the Ministry of Commerce and sponsored by China National Business English Certification Testing Center (located in the School of Applied Foreign Languages at Shenzhen Polytechnic). To date, more than 60,000 people have participated in the training and examination, and about 30,000 people have received certificates.
