ICDE member institution Wawasan Open University, Malaysia, has recently launched an Open Educational Resource forum entitled OER Asia. This site has been created to cultivate an Open Educational Resource community in the Asia region, inspired by a research grant from the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) of Canada.
OER Asia is an online forum to share information, views, research studies and knowledge resources in addition to guidelines and toolkits on OER best practice in the Asian Region.
Given the vastness of the Asian continent, which is home to over four billion people, there is an unprecedented need for access to education and knowledge. This online forum hopes to bring an Asian perspective to the ever growing interest in sharing knowledge. It also aims to encourage collaboration amongst Asian educators and policy makers, and act as an arena to discuss the benefits and challenges of Open Educational Resources.
Wawasan Open University, host of OER Asia, is the youngest among Asia’s seventy open universities. As a new university, Wawasan Open University is embracing the full potential of technology. The university's Institute of Research and Innovation is committed to exploring innovations in teaching and learning, especially in the new technology enabled and enriched environment.
