The Journal of Distance Education in China is affiliated with the Open University of China (OUC).  It currently publishes China Distance Education (biweekly journal), OUC News (biweekly newspaper), and Study (Xuexi Bolan) (monthly magazine).  It also operates such websites as www.xuexigang.com (Study Harbor) and http://www.chinaonlineedu.com/ (China Online Education).

President of the Journal, Mr. Yin Weizhong, has overall responsibility for the Journal, while Ms. Feng Lin, Editor-in-Chief, is responsible for editorial affairs.  The Journal consists of the Editor-in-Chief's Office, the Editorial Office for China Distance Education, the Editorial Office for Study, the Editorial Office for OUC News, the Finance Office, and the Distribution Department.

China Distance Education (biweekly journal), which is under the supervision of the Ministry of Education and sponsored by OUC, is the core business of the Journal.  Formerly known as Journal of China Open University, it changed its name into China Distance Education in 2000.  The mission statement of the Journal is "to keep abreast of practical experience, to focus on process, to carry out more research, and to help readers improve themselves". As a quality academic journal that attaches great importance to both theory and practice, it has been rated by the General Administration of Press and Publication as one of the "double effective" journals in the Chinese journal phalanx, by the Library Society of China as one of the core educational journals for many years, and is indexed in the Chinese Social Science Citation Index (CSSCI) compiled by the Chinese Social Sciences Research Evaluation Center. It is a highly influential journal in China's open and distance education.  After years' of growth, China Distance Education has developed some unique features: it has a wide vision, a strong sense of reform and innovation, as well as a down-to-earth style.  It has also broadened its vision into industries and sectors that are related to distance education.

The Journal keeps a close eye upon the practical development of open and distance education. In particular, it prioritizes on those issues with implications that arise from practice.  It seeks to summarize and present innovative research findings.

China Distance Education seeks to focus on significant topics and present the key features and components of these topics at different stages.  It stresses the need for quality of evolving research findings and tries to present the research findings reflecting the features of forward looking.  It also encourages education practitioners to contribute their fresh ideas and publish their articles so as to expand the authorship base.

The Journal highly values the theoretical articles and promotes research into the fundamental theories of open and distance education as well as curriculum development.  By presenting such research findings, it seeks to push forward the research of open and distance education.
China Distance Education follows the latest developments in the field, and pays sustained attention to the theories of open and distance education as well as curriculum development.  It aims to introduce the findings from academic circles to actual practice.

The Journal is intent on identifying key problems that await resolution.
China Distance Education is intent on asking the right questions and identifying the problems that arise from the research and practice of open and distance education in China. The scrutiny of such problems will lead to valuable research topics and possible solutions.

The Journal has a wide vision.  While concentrating on key problems, difficult problems and current topics in open and distance education, it also has a wider vision to present the process of development as well as research findings.
Although China Distance Education has a specific academic position, it seeks to widen its vision, accommodate more research perspectives, and extend the scope and depth of research. Adhering to the philosophy of "macro education", it positions itself within a framework for building a lifelong learning system and a learning society, exploring and analyzing real and potential problems, especially strategic problems. In the meantime, it stresses substance in the articles so that readers can make actual use of the results from the strategic research.

The Journal seeks to foster an ideal academic environment by creating a platform to encourage interaction among readers, authors and editors.  By doing so, it hopes to promote progress in research and practice.
China Distance Education has made a number of attempts in building an interactive platform for academic exchanges, including "China Distance Education Academic Roundtable", "China Distance Education Experts Forum", and "China Distance Education Youth Forum".  These activities not only help to present the research findings but also help to introduce the findings to a wider audience, which in turn promotes further research efforts.

In addition to China Distance Education, the other publications and websites run by the Journal Office enjoy a very good reputation as well.
Established in 1991, OUC News is the only print newspaper published for and distributed among the teachers and students of all OUs in China.  It reports current issues happening in the various OUs, follows the development of modern open and distance education, builds a positive image and brand recognition for OUs in China, and serves as an important vehicle for quality-oriented education.  The News provides OUs' students with substantial information on teaching, administrative affairs, textbooks and study guides, among others.  As a bridge between the universities and their students, it is a vehicle for the students to voice their own thoughts and concerns.
Established in 2006, Study (Xuexi Bolan) publishes thought-provoking stories and essays.  Renowned scholars and celebrities are interviewed and current topics are discussed.
The Study Harbor website (www.xuexigang.com) serves 15 million on-line learners in China, providing them with information and services about on-line education, creating a platform for exchanges, and helping them to choose the most suitable on-line courses.  It is a very influential website in China's on-line education sector.
