The Teaching Evaluation Office (Teaching Supervision Office), office of division leve, is one of the teaching administration departments of the Open University of China (OUC), which was established in September 2007. Its predecessor was the Office of Teaching Assessment. The Office has undertaken the medium-term assessment and the summative assessment of the Pilot Programme for Reform on Talent Cultivation Mode and Open Education, authorized by the Ministry of Education, and organizes the annual report and annual inspection of open education and inspection of teaching conducted by the University.

The Teaching Evaluation Office has three sections, which are the General Management Section, the Evaluation Design Section, and the Operation and Services Section, and eight staff members. Guo Qingchun is Director of the Office, and Fu Shixian is Vice Director of the Office.

Main duties of the Office:

• Organizing comprehensive assessments;
   
• Organizing the formulation and implementation of special assessment criteria to evaluate subjects and courses;
   
• Setting up teaching inspection management regulations, and coordinating relevant work;
   
• Producing annual reports and conducting annual inspections;
   
• Conducting day-to-day teaching supervision work;
   
• Conducting teaching and learning inspections and supervision of the experimental schools.

As an open education quality supervision department, the Office is currently conducting teaching evaluation (evaluation of subjects and courses) and teaching inspection (inspection of on-site and on-line teaching), producing annual reports, conducting special investigations, and providing teaching supervision. The Office also undertakes the research project Teaching Norms in Open Education, which is a subtopic of the project Web-based Education Digital Learning Resources Center authorized by the Ministry of Education. Meanwhile, the Office has developed some other research projects as Web-based Teaching Information Collection System and Dynamic Monitoring System of Teaching Quality.
